Oh my god.

By day, artsy historical walking-around city.

By night, carnival for grown ups.

Also, saltwater pool.

Also, also, boozy slurpee machines.

Also, also, also...OOh!!! what's that over there?

Das Boot!

I'm having a lot of difficulty walking so I have a boot on my foot and I'm gonna crutch around a while.

More details on the sprained ankle:

I went to a Scorpio ball last night at a goth club called Malediction Society. Beautiful space, tasty but damn expensive drinks, red lights and chandeliers above an old building in downtown LA. Awesome. I hung out, introduced the area to Black Orchids, enjoyed the fantastic Dj and got up to dance.

The dance floor is set into the floor a step down. My friend orchid and my eagerness to dance made me miss that fact. I went down like a ACME airplane and sprained my ankle. Did I mention this club was at the top of an old building with lots of stairs? ;) My gothy companions were very sweet about it when my ankle was hurting so much that the bass from the music was making it throb. We made it an early night. I will be back!

Gimptastic,

Amber

I have been adding "De Los Muertos" to stuff at random today just because.

I finally emerged from the little room at [livejournal.com profile] fritters and [livejournal.com profile] thudpucker's place at around 11 after a languid stroll towards awake and a phone call to Chuck. The person I was supposed to meet today, Sarah, bowed out of our donut tasting* due to belly issues. I hope to meet her before I go though since everyone says she's pretty awesome. We met up with [livejournal.com profile] postrophe and his lady to journey out to two different donut shops for our extremely professional analysis. We discovered that Misty's cat, Max, knocked down most of the donuts from the best shop. He still couldn't have any.

After a sugartastic start, we headed to Canoga Park for their Dia De Los Muertos street fair. How nice of them to wait until I arrived to have it! There was an art gallery, sidewalk chalk, a whole bunch of alters/memorials set up and tons of Marigolds. I will have pictures to share later. I really enjoyed it. There was but one sugar skull though and it was not for sale. I needed a new bag to get stuff home with and I found a really awesome one with skulls all over it at the fair. I am glad I found something I will use when I get back instead of just something to get stuff home in.

After that we have begun preparations for the Scorpio Ball tonight. I am looking forward to it.
It has also been fun helping [livejournal.com profile] fritters pick out something to wear for the black and red theme...De Los Muertos. :)

Onward and upward.

Amber

* Donut tasting is a tradition around these parts.

I am anxious and tired today after a tossy turny night followed by an early morning, but being on a laptop in the middle of a Pirate store helps a whole ton. There is a pirate dangling from the ceiling mere feet from my head.

I'm off the ship and in LA now for part two of my crazy adventure. Things which are on the list in a vague haven't-talked-to-all-parties sort of way:

-Scorpio Party in black and scarlet.

- Donut tasting event with new and old friends.

- Catalina Island mayhaps.

- A Pirate King 2nd edition (board strategy game with Pirates!) release party at this here Pirate store (Enchanted Deva's Last Wish Revenge 'N Treasures). If my earth monies allow and the game rocks, I'll try to bring a copy back with me.

- Petting of kittehs.

Home!

Some of you might have assumed that I didn't go to work today and that the snow killed my internet.

You'd be correct.

Therefore, those who put money on the rabid weasel attack need to pay up.

My estimated home arrival time of 11:15PM from a 10:30PM flight arrival turned into a final home arrival of 4:20AM.

Just stoppin' into work before chorus practice to say hello. My car is covered in crusty snowice stuff, and I have no scraper thing or any experience on what the hell to do with a car in snow-weather. I took the bus.

More later.

Last night went well. I have all the large pieces of furniture over to my new house. I still have some assembling/putting away/decorating to do, but things are coming together. Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] samildanach who drove the 14 foot truck for 31 miles without killing us all and [livejournal.com profile] llynecat who helped lift things and got squished in the middle seat.

My dead computer, I realized, is still at Steve’s. I’m going to wait a while to get it. There is a temptation to just buy a new one since the old one didn’t work that well even when there WASN’T smoke coming out of it. It turns out gaming computers cost some monies, but I use my computer enough that it might be worth the cost to get a good one and not have to mess with it again for another decade. The last time I got a new computer (the Frankenputer I have now is its much tweaked current form) was 1995. But then, I would also like to take the car in for a look see, outfit the house, and head down to SoCal for Thanksgiving… o.o. Poor me. *snort*

But that’s all well and good but I think ya’all want to hear about the cruise. I’m just going to hit a highlight or two from each day, because most of the middle part involved an awful lot of reading by the poolside or watching movies or checking out the scenery. Read more... )

It was great, relaxing goodness. I want to head to Australia in Spring 2008, but we'll see.

Amber
spazzychic: (submit to the owl!)
The cruise is coming to an end pretty soon. It's just enough time for a spa treatment, a deck chair with views of College Fjord, and a big ass prime rib dinner.

I will give a more detailed report later of course. :)

I tried reading through my friends list some over the course of the week, but I know I missed huge swaths of stuff... fill me in? It'll be a couple days before I can blog again as my new place has no internet and my computer is busted, but tell me about what's up anyway.

In other news, if you can lift a heavy object or two and want a free foods Wednesday evening let me know. I have a dresser and a big white wooden shelfy thing. I can check the comments Wednesday morning at the latest to make arrangements for that night. I'd also like to pick up a bed somewhere that night but that is all up to Craigslist Karma and logistics...

..which I can't be all that bothered to worry about at the moment.

Cheers,

Amber

Short version:

Hot tubs,
Great food,
Sitting in a lounge chair with a book...
for HOURS.
No one showing up to the GLBT meeting except for [livejournal.com profile] elona and I...and we couldn't let all that champagne go to waste!
Lots of time, lost in gentle thought, watching the sea...
Look [livejournal.com profile] katvixen! I CAN relax!

Amber

PS: If you've tried to call or text or something, I haven't been able to even get my cell phone to hiccup at me most of the time... o.o
spazzychic: (zen!)
It's another brisk day at work today, followed by a brisk evening of juggling boxes and packing up stuff and other busy-type things. But by this time tomorrow, I'll be on a bus with [livejournal.com profile] elona to go on zee cruise!~

Amber's super secret weight gain program: stress out, then go on a ship with a 24 hour buffet. o.o But it also has a swimmin' pool. I miss having a swimming pool. Btw, I am not bringing a camera. I would rather experience the really awesome stuff than to worry about taking a picture of it.

Now, if I can just slog through today...

I have given my stuffed cold germ to my co-worker to take care of while I'm away. :)

Yesterday was spent around Santa Clarita. I visited several sights. Most of the places I am most familiar with are exactly the same from when I lived there. There are big changes around the more monied parts of town... but I didn't have money at the time. I drove past the house my ex and I had on the way to Princess. I met up with a few friends which turned out to be an ENTIRE SWARM of friends. We did BBQ. I was mocked due to my lack of virginity. Whatever. *smirk*.

Getting home took FOREVER due to a very ouchieful looking accident followed by a couple of slowdowns for no good reason. There were a couple of stops on the way home, but it still took 8ish hours to get here.

It was a decent trip. I didn't go to Powell's this time to save money. Good deeds were done, overhanging issues were closed, and swimming pools were splashed in.

I thought of [livejournal.com profile] ursulalynn quite a bit throughout. Nothing really reminded me of her, but she was there.

The good news is: I made it to Los Angeles safely.

The bad news is: my wallet didn't.

The good news is: I know exactly where it got left behind.

The bad news is: I can't do anything about it until tomorrow morning.,

The good news is: I hve my passport so I can get home worst case scenario.

The bad news is: until I get my wallet, I'm effectively more than broke right now.

The good news is: my room is free, my cell is charged, and I am aware that running around like a freak won't help matters.

To be continued....

spazzychic: (Bad Day)
What a weird ass trip. I got bored at the airport and it turns out it's taken a turn for the worse now that it turns out Matt's friend Joe who got hit by a drunk driver on New Years died. I wish I had a chance to see him but it's too late now. I hope he knows I'd give him a hug if I could.

In completely opposite news, last nights Mars Landing I went to went perfectly. I got to meet some people I never thought I would, like Ray Bradbury. I got to see pictures no human had ever seen before until that moment.

But it doesn't seem to matter at the moment. I was mad at Matt for not getting ahold of me and I just found out why. I feel like an asshole. Once again I am reminded of the futility of anger. I feel bad for him and there's nothing I can do about it.

Heading home to the HoE, which I have to move from in a couple months (more on that later), back to the snow I barely missed and a life without Matts and Joes...

This year will prove to be something. What, I don't know yet.

Amber
spazzychic: (Pixie)
Welp, tonight's it. I go home tommorow. I'm going with a couple friends (sans Matt, again) to see the Mars Landing and hang out with Bill Nye. How gloriously geeky. Tommorow evening, I will be in Seattle again, trying to make odds and ends.. what the hell do I think of a trip to see a specific person, but instead of seeing that person, like at all, I do other stuff? I can't say I wish I didn't come because SOME goodness happened...

There's a Torrid store with a clearence rack which made me smile today.

I got to hang with Misty and Martin and Richard and Ben and various other people who rock, even though they live in the wrong state.

I got to sleep in every day beyond what is good and right.

It rained while I was here. I'd like to think it was my fault.

More later, when I have the whole picture in which to review.

Amber
spazzychic: (apple kitty)
.. One day late, but internet down here is hard to come by. I hope it was well for some...

Mine was OK. I went to this party in the Pacific Palasades. I didn't know too many people but I discovered blue curasou or however it's spelt is really good with Mountain Dew. I spent most of the rest of the evening keeping the Party Victim (fella named Glen. Interesting to babble with once soberish) upright and talking with friends [livejournal.com profile] fritters and [livejournal.com profile] postrophe and others.

Matt didn't make it. I worried about him, then pissed at him for missing midnight, and then convinced he was dead for most of the night since he didn't call and he didn't show up. I did hear from him about 6 the next morning. It turns out a friend of his was in a car accident. So far, except the first day, I didn't see him. But we got a chance to talk and stuff day 1 which was good. I hope he's ok. Maybe I'll see him later tonight.

Other than that, I've had some sleep, and it's very vacation like cept for the fact I catch myself worrying about everything under the sun now and then. (Did Jen and Rob get moved? Is Matt ok? Is Joe, Matt's friend ok? Am I going to catch the death cold most people seem to have down here? Is Brendan, [livejournal.com profile] postrophe's roomates son which I find myself watching on occasion gonna get his fool 7 year old self kilt??)

More later, as the internet comes.. throw a snowball at someone for me Seattle.
